Baking

Yesterday I decided to bake cinnamon rolls! You mix yeast, butter, milk, sugar and flower together. Then you take a rolling-pin and roll out the dough. You put on a spreading of butter, sugar and cinnamon and roll it together. Cut it in pieces and put in forms. Then into the oven for a couple of minutes and it is done!

In the evening I had two friends over for dinner. I served them planksteak! It is made on a piece of wood in the oven. Mashed potatoes (Irish potatoes) around. Yummie!!

Birthday celebration in Denmark

Leaving Varberg and Sweden

The Ferry
 Hello!
Last weekend I went to Denmark to celebrate my cousin who turned 50. Denmark is our neighbouring country. To go there I took the ferry that leaves from Varberg (Varberg is between Gothenburg and Halmstad on the west cost). The ferry over to Grenå in Denmark takes 4 hours. With me on the ferry was my other cousin, Per. He is brother to Anne, the one we were celebrating in Denmark. His parents, my aunt and uncle, and their new husband and wife. My cousins three sons, Simon, Linus(who just came home from a trip in Asia for 5 months!) and Sigge. Simons girlfriend, Amanda, was also there. So we were quite a few people travelling together. In Denmark we also met my brother Fredrik and his girlfriend Åse. They had gone to Denmark already the day before us.
We all went to the house for the party together with Anne who met us at the ferry.
At 6 o'clock the party started. It was a lot of songs and music! Annes and her husband, Thomas, friends are all VERY good at playing instruments and writing and singing songs!! So the whole evening was filled with music and singing. Very nice!!
Music and singing

When the party ended we all slept over at the house in a big dormitory. In the morning we all had breakfast together followed of some more singing and guitar playing.
Then we took the ferry back to Sweden again. A very nice weekend! Thank you Anne for a very nice party!

Easter Sunday

Ella and Wilma are painting eggs
 Hello again!

On Easter Sunday we have a tradition in our family and that is to roll eggs. First each player takes a hard boiled egg and paint it so you will recognise it. To the right you can see Ella and Wilma painting their eggs. I always paint my egg in Liverpools colors! After that you take your egg and you roll it down a ramp. You take turn in starting to roll. Then you have to knock the other players eggs! The more eggs you knock, the more points you get. The one that has most points when the contest is finished wins a price! This year Ella was the winner! I came second!!!!
My egg!
After the contest we eat traditional Easter buffé with eggs, herring, salmon, Jansons temptation, cheese, bread, meatballs and lots of other good stuff.
Happy Easter to everybody!

Good Friday

My appartment with Easter decorations.
 Happy Easter to everybody!

On Easter in Sweden we do not only celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. We also celebrate that the winter is finally over and that the spring is coming. This comes from the Vikings, e a old pre-Christian religion in Sweden that still lives when it comes to certain traditions. We then decorate our houses with feathers in bright colours, Yellow flowers, and chickens. We eat a lot of eggs. That is a tradition after fasting for 40 days then you needed to eat a lot and eggs would get spoiled if you didn't eat them fast. So you see, we have both pre-Christian and Christian traditions when it comes to Easter!

Emma has found her Easter egg!
In the evning I went to a friend of mine for a Easter party. All of us that were invited had some food with us so we all shared. For Easter we eat eggs, as I wrote before, and salmon, herring, meatballs, susages, bread, cheese and potatoes. The children gets Easter eggs that are filled with candy! We hid them in the house and then the children had to go find them! That is a tradition that the children likes very much!

Today, on Easter Sunday my nieces will come here and we will eat some more food. After that we will "Roll eggs". I will tell you more about that tomorrow!
See you then!

Spring is coming to town!

Avenyn, the main street in Gothenburg
 Hello!
A few days ago I went for a walk with my neighbour, Carita. We walked from our house down town, it takes about 40 minutes. To the right here you can see the main street in Gothenburg. At the top of the street is a big statue of Poseidon, God of the ocean in the Greek mythology. And as Gothenburg is a city by the ocean, it is very suiteble to have his as statue here! You see him on the picture at the bottom.

On our way down town we pass the biggest university in Gothenburg, Chalmers. It is not the university that I went to. You go there if you want to study for example to become an engineer.

On our way we also saw how far the spring has come! After the winter all trees and flowers starts to come back to life! After the cold winter when everything is frozen and dead and covered in snow it now is turning and springing back to life again. It gets warmer and warmer and greener and greener. This is my favorite time of the year!
